Founded in 2008 and headquartered in Perth, Australia, Modelling Matters is an innovative resource modelling consultancy, providing smarter, cross-discipline services to the Mining, Oil & Gas and Water industries.
The objective of the business is to provide a source of expertise for any resource modelling project, with the integration of subsurface data, through the use of 3D ‘static’ geological modelling and ‘dynamic’ simulation techniques.
The ability to efficiently integrate data from the various core subsurface disciplines and make sense of its complexity allows our clients to unlock the potential from their highly valued data. This results in informed decisions for the optimization of project performance and economics.

Elliott Douglas
Director / Principal Geological Modeller

With over 22 years experience in the energy industry, Elliott is an expert in 3D geological modelling, with extensive complimentary knowledge in development geology, reservoir characterization, geostatistics, sensitvity & uncertainty studies and field development planning.
Elliott has worked on significant projects throughout Australia and across the globe, with exposure to a varied array of structural, stratigraphic and depositional environments. He is highly competent across a broad collection of modelling software and has been the lead geological modeller on numerous resource developments. He can provide modelling support for conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon, gas storage, groundwater, geothermal and mining projects.
He is also able to train and mentor others on the best practices of 3D geological modelling.
Paul is an accomplished Principal Geological Modeller, Groundwater Modeller, Resource Geologist and Senior Geoscientist. He has over 21 years of extensive experience in geological modelling consultancy and providing specialised services and support in the Petroleum, Groundwater and Mining industries.
A polished professional he is classed as an expert geological modeller, skilled in advanced 3D Geological Modelling and highly proficient in several industry standard geomodelling software packages.
Paul has worked as a geological modelling consultant within multi-discipline technical teams for major field development and production projects, regional scale groundwater modelling projects, asset evaluations, gas storage projects, reservoir characterisation and optimisation studies and independent reserves reports. As well as extensively on short and long-term ventures (both locally within Australasia and internationally) maintaining a strong reputation for geological modelling capability among a large network of clientele.

Ryan’s 19 years of technical expertise encompass water resource planning and recovery of hydrologically impacted ecosystems, with a focus on applying research to sustainable groundwater management and environmental impact/risk assessment.
He has worked on a number of regional groundwater modelling projects locally, interstate and overseas, including both technical review panel and peer review roles.
Ryan's work experience extends to government, academia and the private sectors, and he is currently Director of Hydro Geo Enviro.
Mike’s qualifications include Graduate Certificate in Geostatistics (Edith Cowan University), a PhD in Geology (University of Dublin), and First Class BSc Hons. in Geoscience (University of St. Andrews).
With 20 years industry experience, over 14 of which are in a consulting capacity, Mike specialises in structural geology and mineral resource estimation, in addition to geological mapping, 3D modelling of mineral systems, and structural interpretation of both soft and hard-rock 2D and 3D seismic and tomography survey data. He also utilises the latest in GIS applications and applying Machine Learning to provide the most cost-effective solutions.
Mike has worked for government and the private sector, and is currently Director of Sonny Consulting Services.
