3D Geological Model Construction of Several Fields for PNG LNG Re-determination

JX Nippon, Papua New Guinea

The scope of the project was to construct “best technical” static models for the various producing oil & gas fields that made up the major fields of the PNG LNG re-determination process.

Adherence to the coordinated development and operating agreement was paramount when constructing the models, and this resulted in technical constraints being applied to the modelling methodologies used, and out-of-the-box thinking required in relation to workflow development.

The models were constructed through the integration of available geological, geophysical, and dynamic data, with close liaison and collaboration with the members of the various subsurface disciplines, geophysics, sedimentology, petrophysics and reservoir engineering being key to produce robust static models.

“Modelling Matters has completely broken my image of modelling works, which we normally believe we can do, and have done in-house previously with convenient modelling software. Their skill, understanding to key factors in geology and reservoir engineering with quick and high-quality controlled outputs were key drivers in our successful subsurface study requiring a full iteration process.”
